BYSA Recreational Meeting Minutes
March 28, 2007
Hussey School Library
Attendance: Kerry Ashburn, Rob Keys, Carolyne Frye, Rebbecca Tuck, Cindy Cobb, Mindy Aumann, Denise Mallett, Becky Luke
Treasurer’s Report: Ending balance: $6,362.74. Rebbecca Tuck accepted as new Treasurer.
Field Prep Report: Mark Anytaya would like to resign as Field Prep Coordinator. Suggested that maybe keep him on the board and get a few people to do actual field prep. Aaron Sturgis has expressed interest in field prep. Rob will contact Mark about the goal situation (if new ones are needed), and also speak with Aaron about handling field prep.
It was presented that Kristie Della-Piana sent Kerry an email asking about possibly helping out with soccer nets at Berwick 5 / Noble 6. Matter was discussed, ie. Juniors possible using that field for practices. It was decided it is best to keep things they way they are.
Also discussed: storage of BYSA equipment at Berwick Rec field. We will be allowed to store there at the end of the season and all equipment will have to be clearly marked with BYSA
Sponsors Report: Cindy will be modifying the Sponsor letter and sending it out. Previous sponsors have stated that they don’t need/want the shirts normally given with the plaque, so it was decided that shirts will no longer be given. Also some sponsors would like to just make a donation and not necessarily have a specific team, donations could possibly be used towards scholarships as well.
Items Discussed:
Kindergarten Registration Day: Thursday April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will have a sign up table at the Hussey School manned all day. Carolyne agreed to cover from 9-12, Kerry & Rebecca agreed to cover from 12-2 and Vicki Lantz will cover from 2-4. We will also be handing out Volunteers Needed list.
The need for volunteer follow-up was brought up and agreed on that we need to make phone calls and really push for volunteer help.
Sportsmanship: It was suggested that a “Sportsmanship Contract” be handed out for players and parents to sign. Benching from Bantam level up will be occurring for inappropriate behavior.
Coaches: A coaches meeting will be held sometime in August where coaches will have the opportunity to discuss issues and get their input and feedback. Will try to contact Andy Biggs through Soccer Maine to help out in this area. Carolyne will be purchasing Step-by-Step for Coaches books. 1 for each level ( U6, U8, U10, U13) at $3.00 each to see if this is something we feel each coach would benefit from having.
Clinics: Parents have been asking about a summer soccer clinic. Rob will be contacting Bob Brown about possibly having one. Also discussed, possible weekend spring clinics once fields have dried up.
PTO Sports Day: The PTO is having a sports day in May. Will be having football, wrestling, baseball and soccer. We discussed possibly setting up an obstacle course and soccer net for kids to try out. It was mentioned that Dave Ryan’s daughter might be willing to help with this.
Scholarships: Noble High School will choose 3 boys and 3 girls for us to choose from then we will pick 1 boy and girl to receive the scholarships. There will be 2 scholarships at $200.00 each.
Advertising: 4 sandwich boards will be purchased for announcements. They will be palced as follows: 1 at the corner of Blackberry Hill Rd. and Route 4; 1 on Route 236; 1 Downtown and 1 on Route 9 at the corner of Cranberry Meadow Road. They will also be rented out to other groups for their use as well.
Referees: Will most likely be high school kids. They will either be paid $30.00 per morning (3 games) or can be used toward volunteer hours. Parents and players will be told to respect referees.
Minimum Age: Players have to be 4 by September 1st of the playing year.
Next Meeting: Wednesday May 23, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hussey School Library
